A fun piece of 1970s childhood: a hand-cranked World Wildlife Movie Viewer in bright red, with a yellow World Wildlife film cassette and a second Walt Disney Movie Viewer cassette in its original box.
These were the toy everyone remembers. You pop in a cassette, hold the viewer up to the light, turn the crank and watch a short colour Super 8 film loop. No batteries needed, and the crank lets you play it forwards, backwards, fast or slow. The design started out as a Disney toy in 1971, became the Fisher-Price Movie Viewer, and was sold under other names too, including this World Wildlife Fund version.
What's included:
- Red Movie Viewer with pistol grip, white crank handle and the round "World Wildlife Movie Viewer" panda label. The side focus wheel is marked FOCUS.
- Yellow World Wildlife Movie Viewer cassette with its original label showing an elephant, giraffe and cheetah, and the white film wind-on wheel.
- Walt Disney Character Productions "Movie Viewer" Super 8 colour cassette in its original printed box. The box text is in English, Finnish, Swedish and Portuguese ("Värifilmisarja", "Färgfilm - kasett", "Cassete com filme colorido"), so it was made for the European export market. The box front shows two 1970s kids using a blue viewer, and the window shows the cassette inside.
The box has the shelf wear you'd expect after 50 years: rubbed corners, a split along one edge and creasing near the window. The viewer and yellow cassette look bright with their labels intact.
A great nostalgia piece for anyone who had one as a kid, or a nice addition to a vintage toy or Disney collection.
